The Théâtre National Populaire (TNP) in Villeurbanne is set to host L’Affaire L.ex.π.Re
(Elle expire), a hybrid “ciné-spectacle” produced by the Lyon-based company La Cordonnerie. The production is scheduled to run from April 22 to April 29, 2026, at the salle Jean-Bouise.
Created by Samuel Hercule and Métilde Weyergans, the work blends the physical presence of live theater with integrated filmed sequences. The production was first presented in November 2025 in Chambéry, Savoie, where the filmed portions of the show were also recorded.
Narrative Structure and Staging
The performance utilizes a “bi-frontal” immersive scenic device, positioning the audience at the center of the stage with spectators on opposite sides. A large screen overlooks the stage, a design choice intended to explore the notion of point of view and the subjective nature of human connection.

The story is divided into three acts and follows two distinct narratives that unfold in parallel. While the two protagonists exist in different contexts and locations, they are linked by a shared soundtrack, which serves as the only bridge between their disparate worlds.
One narrative focuses on Natacha Wouters, a Belgian actress spending a day in an Italian-style theater as she prepares to perform the role of Phèdre by Jean Racine. The second narrative follows Max, an unemployed man living in a mobile home whose life is primarily defined by the night and the solitude of urban fringes.
The production incorporates elements of a thriller and includes verses from Racine’s Phèdre, blending high-pressure classical theater with the realities of marginalization.
