Orlane, a young medical graduate, is broadening her musical horizons with her new album, Round Trip, notably by embracing electronic music.
The album, which opens with the a cappella track “Touching the Sky,” transitions into dancefloor-ready songs like “Sierra Nevada” and “The End of Silence.” These tracks increase the tempo while delivering a societal message.
Orlane said she draws inspiration from her experiences in LGBT nightlife: “I frequent the middle of the LGBT night, the drag shows, the cabarets … At one point, you are on the track, you have fun on techno without thinking of anything and, at the turn of a chorus or a slogan, you say to yourself ‘Here, it’s a song to party but it has depth.’ This is what I wanted to do with ‘The End of Silence,’ which is a feminist techno ode. I was particularly angry with patriarchy the day I recorded this thing.”

Seeking Stability Through Music
round Trip explores Orlane’s search for stability after a period of upheaval, moving between what she describes as “survivinated pop” in tracks like “lipstick” and intimate explorations of desire in songs such as “23/9” and “bad Love.”
“Since the release of the EP, I have experienced three moves, five sentimental ruptures and four attempts to reconcile with the same person, not to mention my first big concerts, the signing of my contract with the source label, the shuttles between Brussels and Paris where I recorded the album. They where only perpetual movements. My favorite song on the disc is called Slowed down. She describes this moment ‘Entre-deux’ that I often cross. By dint of being constantly in motion, you aspire calmly while knowing that if you put yourself, you will be invaded by doubts. The title of the album Round trip takes on its full meaning. It translates the emotional elevator that I have known in the last three years,” Orlane said.
Upcoming Performance

Additionally, Orlane will perform with An Pierlé and Willow at a concert benefiting the children of Gaza on June 8 in La Louvière.
