Osaka Seikei University (Higashiyodogawa-ku, Osaka City / President Yoshimasa Nakamura) offers the “Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Education Program” as a required subject for students of the Faculty of Data Science. This educational program has been certified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as part of the “Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Education Program Certification System (applied basic level, faculty/department unit).”

[Key points of this matter]
■ Courses offered from the first year include courses that teach pair programming, code reviews, and version control using software development tools (such as GitHub), as well as courses in which students run programs that perform inference using local LLMs (large-scale language models) and experience the workings of generative AI.

■Working with the local community and industry to tackle real-world problems. We also invite special lecturers from well-known companies, providing plenty of opportunities to learn about the latest social implementation technologies and the challenges they face.

Osaka Seikei University has been offering the AI ​​and Data Science Education Program, which has been certified for the same literacy level, to all undergraduate students from the 2022 academic year. The Mathematics, Data Science and AI Education Program, which has now been certified as an applied basic level, is a program for undergraduate students of data science, and covers a wide range of content, including basic knowledge and techniques of data science, elementary concepts of machine learning and statistics, and the basics and applications of programming.
In order to improve and evolve the program, the results of class surveys are analyzed in the cross-departmental project “Building a University-wide AI, Mathematics, and Data Science Education and Promoting Digital Transformation on Campus Project” within the university-wide “FSD Conference on Educational Reform,” and the program is constantly updated to meet the needs of society and students through the PDCA cycle.

[About the Osaka Seikei University School of Data Science]
The school will open in 2023 as the first data science department at a private university in western Japan. Based at a campus in front of the station, just a two-minute walk from Hankyu Railway’s Aikawa Station, students will acquire knowledge of programming, statistics, artificial intelligence, and other subjects, and develop the ability to discover and solve problems hidden in business and society. From the 2025 academic year, three new courses will be established, evolving the school into a learning environment that will help students realize their ideal future.
