Osama Krayem, a 32-year-old Swedish man, is on trial in Stockholm, extradited from France to face charges related to his alleged role with ISIS. Krayem has already been convicted in France for his involvement in the Nov. 13, 2015, paris attacks and the March 22, 2016, Brussels bombings.
Now, Krayem faces accusations of aggravated war crimes and terrorist offenses.Prosecutors allege that Krayem participated in the execution of Maaz al-Kassasbeh, a Jordanian pilot captured in late 2014 in Syria. Al-Kassasbeh was burned alive in a gruesome video released by ISIS.
Prosecutor Reena Devgun stated that “Osama Krayem, in concert and in agreement with other co-authors members of the Islamic State, killed Maaz al-Kassasbeh,” during the trial’s opening.
Al-Kassasbeh, 26, was flying a mission against ISIS over Raqqa on Dec. 24, 2014, when his plane was hit. He ejected but was captured by the terrorist association. The execution video, released Feb. 3, showed al-Kassasbeh in an orange jumpsuit, surrounded by militants before being set ablaze.
