Shohei Ohtani Returns to the Field After Injury, Leads Dodgers to Victory
Shohei Ohtani, the 30-year-old LA Dodgers player, made a remarkable return to the field after suffering a shoulder injury, leading his team to a 4-2 victory against the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series.
Ohtani started as the designated hitter and took five at-bats, going 0-hit, 1 walk, and 1 base hit in 3 at-bats. Despite not hitting well, he contributed to the team’s victory by scoring a run in the top of the first inning. The Dodgers won the game without losing the lead, leaving them just one win away from winning the World Series.
Ohtani’s participation in the game was a topic of discussion after he suffered a left shoulder injury while attempting to steal a base in the bottom of the 7th inning of Game 2. However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed optimism about Ohtani’s appearance in Game 3, stating that his condition had improved since the day he was injured.
In an interview after the game, Ohtani discussed his current physical condition, saying, “The pain is subsiding, and my swing seems to be returning (as before).” He also addressed concerns about his injury, explaining that when a left-handed hitter bats, more force is applied to his right shoulder than to his left shoulder, and expressing his opinion that the injury was a “blessing in disguise” since it was on his left side.
Regarding the possibility of undergoing surgery after the World Series, Ohtani stated that there hadn’t been much discussion about it yet and that his condition would be checked after an examination after the season. He added, “I don’t think there will be any problems at this stage.”
