Outrage Erupts: Tens of Thousands Demand Answers from CUHK Over Assistant Coach’s Alleged Role in Sled Dog Torture and Murder
Alaskan Malamute “Fat Tiger” Brutally Beaten and Strangled to Death by Adopter in Shenzhen
A disturbing incident has shaken the community in Shenzhen, where an Alaskan Malamute named “Fat Tiger” was brutally beaten and strangled to death by its adopter. The couple involved, suspected to be Du Heng, a teaching assistant at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Li Yan, a doctoral student, have sparked widespread outrage and condemnation.
According to reports, Fat Tiger was adopted by Du Heng and Li Yan on May 14 this year. However, on September 4, Li Yan informed a volunteer that Du Heng had killed the dog, claiming that he was “training” the animal. An autopsy revealed that the dog’s mouth was full of blood, and the cause of death was strangulation. It was also discovered that Du Heng had tied the dog’s neck with a P-rope and beaten it on the head with a vacuum cleaner tube.
The incident has attracted attention from all walks of life, with Ma Junwei, a prominent animal lover, sending a letter to CUHK on behalf of Fat Tiger, demanding that the incident be treated seriously and explained. Ma Junwei emphasized that the issue is not about whether the two individuals study at CUHK but rather how they view life as college students or teaching assistants. He believes that universities should educate students about morals, values, and the importance of treating animals with respect and kindness.
Ma Junwei has also collected over 10,000 signatures, calling on CUHK to provide an explanation for the incident. He has contacted Legislative Council members Or Chuang-shing, Deng Jiapiao, and AACP Chairman Fu Mingxian, who have all promised to follow up on the matter. CUHK has publicly stated that it attaches great importance to the incident and is treating it seriously, but there has been no update on the situation for many days.
