Outrage in Busan: Mother Slams School Over Unbelievable Request – Can’t Even Perform a Simple Appendectomy
It was later revealed that a middle school student who suffered an emergency with acute appendicitis in the middle of the night was unable to find care for two hours before finally receiving surgery.
According to Busan On General Hospital and Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, 15-year-old A, who lives in Saha-gu, Busan, complained of severe abdominal pain around 7:30 p.m. on the 23rd.
Group A and his mother went to an ENT clinic near their home, but were diagnosed with suspected appendicitis and had to be admitted to a large hospital.
The mother of group A called the 119 emergency center, explained her symptoms, and was informed that the surgery could be performed at hospitals in Haeundae-gu and Suyeong-gu, Busan.
The mother immediately put Mr. A in the car and drove to the emergency room of a hospital in Haeundae, about 35 km from home, around 8:40 that night. The hospital responded that “the surgery is difficult.”
Due to the situation of the medical staff, I was informed that “no other surgical intervention is possible other than liver transplantation.”
The mother also called the Suyeong-gu Hospital, where she had been admitted, but they also replied: “Surgery is not possible for teenagers.”
After asking her acquaintances, the disheartened mother was informed that the surgery could be performed at the emergency center of On General Hospital in Busanjin-gu. She arrived around 9:37 p.m. and underwent laparoscopic surgery.
It’s been two hours since I left the house.
The mother of Group A said, “As I traveled between the west and east of Busan with my 15-year-old son, I trembled in fear that appendicitis could lead to peritonitis,” and added, “I became deeply aware of the need to quickly resolve the conflict in the government.”
An official at the hospital where the surgery was performed was quoted as saying, “The fatigue of medical staff in every hospital is increasing, so even appendicitis, which can be easily cured, could lead to the worst situation where the patient could be at risk.”
