Overflowing Vinnies Bins: Residents Demand Action
“`html
Alarming images of an overflowing charity bin outside a local school and church in Bayswater have surfaced, with fed-up residents now calling for the people involved to return and clean up the mess and dispose of the items.
A sign on the front of the bin clearly states that leaving items outside the bin is considered “illegal dumping” with prosecuted offenders perhaps receiving a penalty of up to $125,000 according to the Environmental Protection Act, 1936.
The resident sharing the images on a Facebook community page said whoever left the items outside the bin, situated on the site of St Columba’s Church, to “please look at the area now”.
“While your intentions may have been good, it has unfortunately resulted in significant mess.
“Most of the items are damaged and cannot be used.

Vinnies WA executive manager social enterprise Carl Prowse said it’s Vinnies’ responsibility to clean-up donation sites and ensure they are managed safely and appropriately.
“The clothing shown in the image provided has since been collected, the area cleaned this morning, and a refreshed donation bin has been arranged to replace the existing one at this site,” Mr Prowse said.
He also confirmed they do not allocate additional or unusual resources specifically for these situations.
“We have a team of drivers who operate throughout the week, visiting donation bins across the metropolitan area based on demand and scheduled collections.
“The ongoing repair and maintenance of donation bins is part of our regular operations, however significant damage or major repairs may occasionally need to be outsourced,” he said.
Mr Prowse encourages people who wish to donate items to either return at a later time or go to their nearest Vinnies store, during opening hours, if the bin is full.
