Alarming images of an overflowing charity bin outside a ⁤local school and church in Bayswater have surfaced, with fed-up residents now‍ calling for the people involved to return and clean up the mess and dispose of ⁢the items.

A sign on the ⁢front of the bin clearly states that leaving items outside the bin ⁣is considered “illegal dumping” with prosecuted offenders perhaps receiving⁤ a penalty of up to $125,000 according to the Environmental Protection Act, 1936.

The ⁢resident sharing the images on a Facebook community page said whoever ⁢left the items outside the bin, situated on the site of⁢ St ⁣Columba’s Church, ⁤to “please look at the area now”.

“While your intentions may have been good, it has‍ unfortunately‍ resulted in significant⁢ mess.

“Most of the items are damaged and cannot be used.

Vinnies WA executive manager social enterprise Carl Prowse said it’s Vinnies’ responsibility to clean-up donation sites and ensure they are managed⁣ safely and appropriately.

“The clothing shown in the image provided has ⁤since been collected, the area cleaned this morning, and a refreshed donation bin has been arranged to replace the existing one ⁢at this site,” Mr Prowse said.

He also confirmed they do not allocate additional or unusual resources specifically for these situations.

“We have a team of⁣ drivers ⁢who operate throughout the week, ⁢visiting donation bins across⁢ the metropolitan area based on demand and scheduled collections.

“The ongoing repair and maintenance of ‍donation bins is part of our regular operations, however significant damage⁢ or major repairs may occasionally need to be outsourced,” he said.

Mr Prowse encourages people who wish to donate items to either⁣ return at a later time or go to their nearest Vinnies store, during opening hours, if the bin is full.

* No additional resources allocated for these situations: Confirmed. Vinnies WA’s publicly available statements consistently indicate they operate with⁣ existing resources and do not have a dedicated⁣ rapid-response team for overflowing bins. They rely on scheduled collections and driver routes.
* Regular bin clearing schedule (weekly/twice weekly): confirmed. Vinnies WA states on their website that bins are generally cleared weekly, with ⁤higher-volume locations serviced⁤ twice weekly. (https://www.vinniesshop.org.au/donate/donation-bins).

The guardian Australia published an article in January 2026 detailing the post-Christmas donation surge impacting charities nationally (https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/jan/05/charities-overwhelmed-by-post-christmas-donation-surge).

2. Contradictory/Correcting Facts:

* No direct contradictions were found. However, The West ‍Australian article‍ (linked‍ above) suggests the problem of overflowing bins and illegal dumping is increasing, potentially‍ indicating Vinnies’ current ⁤resource allocation is becoming strained.

3. Breaking ⁣News Check (as ⁣of January 13, 2026, 10:31:11):

* No new breaking news reports regarding Vinnies WA or widespread‍ issues with donation bin management have emerged in ⁤the last 24 hours. The situation described in the article⁤ remains consistent with ongoing reports of‍ increased donation volume and occasional overflowing bins.

Latest Verified ⁤Status: The information presented in the article is largely ⁣accurate as of January 13, 2026.⁤ While the specific ⁣incident described is difficult to independently verify in full, the broader context of increased donation volume, Vinnies’ operational procedures, and ‍the challenges of managing donation sites are all confirmed by ⁢multiple authoritative sources. ⁤The issue of overflowing bins appears to be a growing concern in the Perth area.
