Oxford University and Brazil’s Health Ministry Partner to Boost Cancer Vaccine Development
The two countries have already worked together on vaccine research during the Covid-19 pandemic
The Ministry of Health has formalized an agreement with the University of Oxford for the development of vaccines to prevent cancer. The partnership seeks to accelerate the creation of innovative immunological therapies, expand equitable access and strengthen the scientific and technological capacity of both countries in mRNA technologies and artificial intelligence for scientific discovery.
The signing of the Letter of Intent between the Ministry of Health and the Center for Immuno-oncology at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom also included representatives from the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), Fiocruz and leading Brazilian hospitals, who will integrate the cooperation. other institutions, such as the National Cancer Institute (INCA), will be invited to participate in the next stages.
For the secretary of Science, Technology and innovation in Health, Fernanda De Negri, “This agreement, driven by the Ministry of Health, opens a very vital window of opportunity for research institutions, leading hospitals and Brazilian companies to participate, from very early on, in studies on vaccines for cancer. This puts us in a more advantageous position when these vaccines eventually reach the market.”
