Ozols and Aleksa Valtere Release New Post-Punk Single Tuvu Talu Prom

Latvian hip-hop figure Ozols and singer Aleksa Valtere have released a collaborative single titled Tuvu tālu prom, bringing unexpected 1980s post-punk and new wave textures to the rapper’s catalog. The track was built outward from Valtere’s guitar improvisation, leading her to reach out to Ozols via Instagram after initially struggling to write verses over a boombap drum pattern.

The Genesis of a Cross-Genre Collaboration

Valtere recorded her initial idea in FL Studio before deciding the track required a rapper’s voice. Having returned to Latvia eight years prior and faced early language hurdles that nearly caused her to quit music, she signed with the music publishing house Mikrofona ieraksti in 2023. Unsure if an established artist would work with a newcomer, she sent a demo to Ozols.

Uzrakstīju viņam Instagram, lai gan biju pārliecināta, ka viņš nebūs gatavs sadarboties ar mazpazīstamu, jaunu mākslinieci. Taču viņš man par lielu pārsteigumu atbildēja! Tā arī sākās mūsu kopīgais ceļojums.

Production and Lyrical Theme

Ozols reviewed the demo and enlisted producer Niklāvs Sekačs, known as NiklāvZ, to try several arrangement versions before settling on the 1980s new wave and post-punk style. Arnis Račinskis handled recording and sound processing, while Viesturs Klavinš collaborated on the visual video versions. The song’s lyrics direct attention toward personal memories and life experiences designed to provide strength during difficult moments.
