Tom Brady,Teacher Vie for $2M Prize at Fanatics Fest
NEW YORK – Tom Brady adn a Philadelphia sports fanatic identified as Dennish are among the frontrunners at Fanatics Fest,a sports and skills competition where fans face off against superstar athletes for a grand prize of $2 million.
Dennish currently trails Brady,but the second-place prize is a Ferrari 812 GTS.Third place gets a LeBron James 2003-04 Topps Chrome Gold Refractor Trading Card, valued at approximately $250,000.
Fanatics Fest selected 50 fans based on video submissions showcasing their skills. Dennish, a 39-year-old high school teacher, submitted a video that included dunking over a student during a teacher-student basketball game.
“Michael Rubin pops up, and Fanatics does a tremendous job of promoting,” Dennish told Fox Business. “so,I saw this,I do a lot of stupid things when it comes to sports. so I was like, ‘why not give this a try?'”
Dennish, a former Division I track runner at East Carolina University with a personal best of 1:49.93 in the 800 meters,also played football and basketball at Red Lion High School.He currently has a 2-handicap in golf.
His submission video also featured highlights from his athletic endeavors, including a half-court shot at a 76ers game.
The Fanatics Fest challenges include quarterback skills,pitching accuracy,closest-to-the-pin,a UFC striking challenge,and a WWE walkout.
Dennish joked that he expects to become a “meme” at school after his WWE walkout video went viral.
“I was definately hoping that the WWE walkout video would not get out. But then I saw Fanatics Fest posted it,” he said.
Dennish admitted he “left some points out there with football” but was pleased to be ahead of Eli Manning in the standings.
“That feels good,” he said.
He added, “The one I was most happy about was baseball… The WWE walkout, I’m proud of myself for not being a wrestling fan.It was a lot of research and a lot of talking to fans to see what that entails.”
Other notable participants include Dwight Howard, Rob Gronkowski, Russell Wilson, CJ Stroud, and Julian Edelman.
Cam Newton,Dez Bryant,Joe Burrow,odell Beckham Jr., and Travis hunter have yet to compete.
Even if Dennish doesn’t finish in the top three, the highest-scoring fan will receive $100,000.
