Pacers Sports & Entertainment Unveils $78M Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 16, 2025) — Pacers Sports & Entertainment (PS&E) has announced plans to construct a $78 million, state-of-the-art sports performance center exclusively for the Indiana Fever, marking a significant investment in women’s professional basketball. The three-story, 108,000-square-foot facility is set to break ground in August 2025 and is expected to open ahead of the 2027 WNBA season.

Located in downtown Indianapolis, the Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center will be part of the PS&E campus, connected to Gainbridge Fieldhouse and the Virginia Avenue Parking Garage via a skybridge. The project, designed to meet the unique needs of female athletes, will feature cutting-edge amenities aimed at enhancing performance, recovery, and overall well-being.

“We are excited to partner with Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett to identify the perfect location for the Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center,” said PS&E Owner Herb Simon. “The city of Indianapolis continues to be a tremendous partner as we elevate our team, players, and community.”

The facility will include two regulation-sized courts with natural light, top-tier strength and conditioning equipment, yoga and Pilates spaces, and a full-service kitchen. For recovery, players will have access to a spa-like retreat complete with massage therapy, infrared light therapy, saunas, steam rooms, and hydrotherapy pools. Additional features include a private outdoor courtyard, mental performance spaces, a hair and nail salon, childcare facilities, and a podcast and content production studio.

“With the goal of Indianapolis becoming the epicenter of women’s sports, this world-class sports performance center will be the preeminent place for players to train, recover, and push their boundaries,” said PS&E CEO Mel Raines. “It’s a game changer in terms of providing the ultimate player experience.”

The center will also serve as a hub for community engagement, offering exclusive fan experiences and a Fever team store with unique merchandise. Currently, the Fever’s practice facilities are housed within Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which underwent renovations in 2020. However, the new stand-alone facility is poised to elevate both the team’s performance and fan experience.

“This elite training center is a reflection of our organization’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that our players have the highest level of resources to be successful,” said Indiana Fever President of Basketball and Business Operations Kelly Krauskopf. “As we look to the future, the focus of creating a first-class player experience designed exclusively for women athletes will set us apart.”

The facility will be constructed on the west half of the former Marion County Jail site at the corner of Alabama and Maryland streets. The city of Indianapolis will transfer the land to the Capitol Improvement Board of Marion County, which will enter into an operating agreement with a PS&E affiliate. Upon completion of the agreement, the facility will be donated to the CIB.

“Last year, we experienced an unprecedented boom in interest and attention on women’s sports around the world, led in large part by our very own Indiana Fever,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. “This significant investment from Pacers Sports & Entertainment will drive further momentum in women’s basketball in our community and continue to elevate our status as a major league sports city.”

Construction will be led by Shiel Sexton, with global design firm Populous serving as the architect of record. Known for its innovative approach to sports facilities, Populous has played a key role in shaping the future of women’s professional sports.

“Our team at Populous is honored to collaborate with the Indiana Fever and Pacers Sports & Entertainment to develop a cutting-edge, best-in-class training facility for one of the premier teams in the WNBA,” said Adam Stover, senior principal at Populous. “This facility will help lay the foundation for the future success of the team, attracting new talent and providing world-class amenities for the current roster.”
