Pack of Terror: 10 Wild Dogs Unleash Frenzy on Unsuspecting Walker in Daegu, Leaving Residents on Edge
Wild Dogs Roam Downtown Daegu, Causing Concerns Among Residents
A pack of wild dogs has been spotted in downtown Daegu, raising concerns among residents. The district office is working to capture the dogs, but complaints are reportedly continuing.
According to Yonhap News, complaints about wild dogs have been filed in the area around Daegu Dong-gu Innovation City for several years. The number of wild dogs captured in Dong-gu alone over the past two months since July has reached 6. Currently, Dong-gu is operating a wild dog rescue and capture team to capture packs of wild dogs that have entered the city.
The pack of wild dogs is believed to be wild animals that have strayed from the nearby mountains. They occasionally enter the downtown area of Dong-gu, and some packs are reported to threaten residents.

In fact, a resident of Dong-gu filed a complaint saying, “While I was walking in an empty lot, about 10 wild dogs came running at me at high speed,” and “Please inspect and respond to areas where wild dogs frequently appear and are frequented by many people.” Dong-gu is responding by putting bait in a trap to capture the dogs.
However, even if the capture was successful, there were cases where the remaining wild dog packs came down to the city center while moving their habitats. Dong-gu explained to the media, “There is a breeding problem beyond capturing them.” In addition, when ordinary people abandon their pets at Daegu tourist attractions such as Palgongsan, these animals become wild and join wild dog packs, a vicious cycle continues.
Fortunately, there have been no direct casualties from wild dogs yet. However, as wild dogs are also appearing in private homes, the district office plans to respond to complaints in cooperation with fire departments, police, etc.
According to the current Animal Protection Act, if an animal shelter confirms the existence of an owner for an abandoned dog and posts an adoption notice for more than 10 days, but no one appears willing to adopt the animal, the animal can be euthanized.
It has been reported that packs of wild dogs have been captured in succession in Daegu City since 2022. At that time, the Daegu Fire Department was found to have responded to dog capture-related dispatches an average of 91 times a month and an average of 3 times a day.
It takes longer to capture a stray dog that has turned wild. This is because stray dogs have a wide range of movement and are highly cautious, making it difficult to enter a capture frame, and they are not designated as harmful wild animals, making it impossible to capture them with a gun.
