San Diego – The San Diego padres, fresh off a hard-fought series against the Dodgers, returned to Petco Park only to suffer a 6-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals Friday night. A crowd of 43,574, manny in Star Wars costumes, watched as the Padres’ comeback attempt fell just short.
Nick Pivetta, the padres’ starting pitcher, struggled, surrendering four runs on home runs. Bobby Witt Jr. hit a solo shot, and Jonathan India added a three-run homer. Pivetta lasted 4.2 innings, striking out three. He has now given up five home runs in his last four starts after allowing six in his first 11.
royals starter Michael Lorenzen cruised through the initial four innings, allowing only a single to Xander Bogaerts. In the 5th, Trenton Brooks, a granite Hills High School graduate, doubled to right field for his first hit at Petco Park. Brooks scored on a single by Luis arraez, putting San Diego on the board.
