New Delhi: In a important counter-terrorism success, three high-ranking Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, including the mastermind behind the deadly Pahalgam attack, were eliminated in a joint operation by the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police in Dachigam, near Srinagar. The operation, codenamed ”Operation Mahadev,” was a culmination of meticulous intelligence gathering and swift action, a government source confirmed.
Key Terrorists Eliminated
The neutralized terrorists have been identified as Suleiman alias Faizal, also known as Suleiman Shah alias Hashim Musa, who was the A-category commander of LeT and the mastermind of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The other two eliminated terrorists were identified as Afghan and Jibran, both described as A-category LeT terrorists.
“Suleiman was an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Afghan was an A-category Lashkar-e-taiba terrorist. And Jibran was also an A-grade terrorist,” a government official stated during a debate in Parliament’s monsoon session. “All three terrorists who killed our citizens in the Baisaran valley have been eliminated.”
Intelligence-Driven Operation
The accomplished operation was reportedly driven by a combination of human and technical intelligence. Government sources indicated that the terrorists had been under surveillance and were tracked down by special military forces. The identities of the slain terrorists were cross-verified with photographs and previously received intelligence inputs.
News18 reported that the National Inquiry Agency (NIA) played a crucial role, aided by two individuals arrested for providing shelter to the terrorists prior to the attack. These arrested individuals identified all three killed terrorists,confirming their presence at their shelter.All three were Pakistani nationals and affiliated with the let.
Pahalgam Attack Aftermath
The Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 resulted in the tragic loss of 26 lives, including one Nepali national. Authorities are currently analyzing the weapons recovered from the neutralized terrorists to ascertain if they were directly used in the Pahalgam massacre. Forensics teams are meticulously examining the cartridges and bullets recovered from the terrorists.
The elimination of these key operatives marks a significant blow to the LeT’s operational capabilities in the region and underscores the effectiveness of the joint security forces’ counter-terrorism strategy.
