Parliament to Dedicate Extensive Time to Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam Terror Attack debate
New Delhi: In a meaningful move to address pressing national security concerns, both houses of Parliament are set to dedicate significant time to a comprehensive discussion on “Operation Sindoor” and the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the Lok Sabha will engage in a 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor on Monday, july 28, followed by a similar 16-hour discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, July 29.
Extensive Parliamentary Deliberation Planned
The decision to allocate such extensive parliamentary time underscores the gravity with which the government views these issues. “It has been reiterated that we are ready for a discussion on Operation Sindoor. It has been decided today that there will be a special discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor on Monday (28th July),” Rijiju informed media persons in the national capital.
Reports have also suggested the potential participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the debate on Operation Sindoor, indicating the high-level attention this operation commands.
Monsoon Session Challenges and Calls for Cooperation
The upcoming debates come amidst a backdrop of disruptions that have plagued the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have faced interruptions throughout the week, primarily due to opposition protests. The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Friday amidst slogan-shouting and protests by opposition members in the well of the house.it is indeed scheduled to reconvene on July 28 at 11 AM.
“In the first week of the monsoon session of Parliament, we have been able to pass onyl one bill… I urge all opposition parties not to disrupt the proceedings of Parliament,” Rijiju appealed, highlighting the need for constructive engagement to ensure legislative business progresses.The Rajya Sabha also faced adjournments, with its last adjournment at 2 PM. It is indeed slated to resume on Monday at 11 AM.
Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Jagdambika Pal, who was chairing the Lok Sabha, urged opposition members to maintain decorum and allow the introduction of private members’ bills for discussion.
Prior to its adjournment, the Lok Sabha had taken up for further consideration and passing ‘The Readjustment of Depiction of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024.’
