Paige bueckers Claims First WNBA Victory in Connecticut Return

Uncasville, Conn. — dallas Wings’ top draft pick Paige Bueckers secured her first WNBA victory Tuesday night, as the Wings defeated the Connecticut Sun 109-87. Bueckers led the team with a season-high 21 points in her return to Connecticut.
Bueckers, formerly a UConn Huskies standout, had faced a tough start to her professional career with four consecutive losses. though, she turned the tide in a triumphant homecoming at Mohegan Sun Arena.
“Felt great just to play like that as a team and obviously that habitat is special to me,” Bueckers said,reflecting on the win and the supportive atmosphere.
The game in Connecticut followed another recent homecoming for Bueckers, who played in her home state of Minnesota just six days prior. The Dallas Wings’ Paige Bueckers maintained her undefeated record at Mohegan Sun Arena, a streak that includes 15 wins and four Big East championships during her time with UConn.
The sold-out crowd greeted Bueckers with a standing ovation,many sporting her UConn or Dallas jersey. Her former Huskies teammates were also in attendance to support her.
Bueckers ignited the Wings’ offense early, contributing seven points and four assists in the first quarter. By halftime, she had amassed 15 points, helping Dallas establish a 14-point lead.
Wings coach Chris Koclanes praised Bueckers’ performance, noting, “She just continues to do things that should be surprising but aren’t… I take a step back to just appreciate the type of player and even more so the type of person that she is.”
Off the court, Bueckers remains committed to addressing food insecurity. She recently highlighted a Verizon-sponsored surprise meeting with beneficiaries of her food insecurity project in Minnesota, launched in 2022. As Chegg’s first student-athlete brand ambassador, Bueckers has worked to raise awareness about student hunger.
“it was a total, complete surprise just for them to bring in those people who have been a part of my story and been a part of my journey,” Bueckers said. “It means so much to give back, to see the impact firsthand. It’s truly inspiring. I was extremely grateful for that.”
Koclanes also acknowledged Bueckers’ leadership qualities, stating, “She wants to really be a great leader and is committing time into developing those skills to help this culture and her teammates as a rookie.”
