Pakistan Proposes Tri-Party agricultural Venture with Saudi Arabia and Sudan to bolster Regional Food Security
Islamabad,Pakistan – July 19,2025 - Pakistan is spearheading an ambitious initiative to forge a strategic tri-party partnership with Saudi Arabia and Sudan,aiming to unlock the vast agricultural potential of the Islamic world and enhance regional food security. The proposed collaboration will leverage Sudan’s fertile lands, Pakistan’s agricultural expertise, and Saudi Arabia’s investment capabilities to launch joint agricultural ventures.
Vision for agricultural Cooperation
The proposal, championed by Pakistan’s Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, during a meeting with Sudanese Ambassador to Pakistan, Salih Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Siddig, outlines a clear vision for transforming Pakistan into a hub for international agricultural cooperation. Minister Hussain emphasized that such partnerships are crucial for fostering regional prosperity and aligning with Pakistan’s broader agenda of achieving sustainable development through strategic diplomacy and agricultural innovation.
Key sectors for Collaboration
The minister identified several pivotal sectors where Pakistan can actively participate and contribute. These include:
Sugar Industry: Encouraging Pakistani private sector stakeholders to invest in sugar processing and technology transfer within Sudan. Meat Export: Focusing on developing Sudan’s meat export sector, particularly in slaughterhouse infrastructure, to meet international standards.
“Such partnerships will not onyl contribute to regional prosperity but also align with Pakistan’s broader agenda of achieving sustainable development through strategic diplomacy and innovation in agriculture,” stated Minister Hussain. He further elaborated on the ministry’s commitment to forging new international agricultural alliances that enhance food security, boost investment, and promote South-South cooperation.
Deep-Rooted Ties Pave the Way for Collaboration
Minister Hussain highlighted the profound cultural, religious, and historical ties between Pakistan and Sudan as a robust foundation for enhanced collaboration in agricultural trade, education, and technology. He briefed the Sudanese envoy on Pakistan’s advanced research institutions and technical expertise in critical areas such as crop production, irrigation, and livestock health, positioning them as ideal resources to support Sudan’s agricultural development ambitions.
Sudanese Ambassador Salih Mohamed acknowledged the strong goodwill and trust between the two nations, sharing insights into Sudan’s demographic composition.
Addressing Geopolitical Realities and Humanitarian support
Minister tanveer acknowledged the current geopolitical situation in Sudan and commended the country’s efforts to maintain peace.he reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to cooperate in humanitarian and development domains, with a focus on sustainable agriculture-based solutions.
welcoming Sudan’s keen interest in educational collaboration, Pakistan expressed its willingness to facilitate additional seats for Sudanese students at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, further strengthening bilateral ties through knowledge exchange.
Leveraging Sudan’s Livestock Strengths
the minister also recognized Sudan’s strengths in livestock production, particularly its adherence to health standards for exports to Gulf markets and its capacity for producing disease-free meat. He encouraged closer cooperation in veterinary science, breeding, and poultry management, assuring Sudan of Pakistan’s technical assistance where needed. The contribution of the pakistani diaspora in sudan, especially in skilled trades and technical services, was also acknowledged and appreciated.
