Pakistan Increases Petrol and Diesel Prices Amid Economic Pressure

Pakistan’s Finance Division announced notable increases in petrol and diesel prices Sunday night. The price of petrol rose by Rs4.80 per liter, while diesel climbed by Rs7.95 per liter.
Effective June 16, the new price for high-speed diesel (HSD) is Rs262.59 per liter, up from Rs254.64. Petrol will now cost Rs258.43 per liter, an increase from Rs253.63.
The Finance Division said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and relevant ministries recommended the price adjustments.
Initial estimates had projected smaller increases of Re1 and Rs5 per liter for petrol and diesel, respectively. The adjustments reflect rising international market prices.
earlier in the week, the government committed to the international Monetary Fund (IMF) to impose a petroleum levy of Rs77 per liter, along with carbon levies on furnace oil and charges on petrol and diesel, starting July 1.
