Pakistan ‍Increases Petrol and Diesel Prices ⁣Amid Economic Pressure

Pakistan’s Finance Division announced notable increases in petrol and diesel prices⁣ Sunday night.⁤ The ⁤price of petrol rose by ‌Rs4.80 per ‍liter, while diesel climbed by Rs7.95 ⁤per liter.

Effective June 16, the new price for high-speed diesel ⁢(HSD) is Rs262.59 per⁣ liter, up from ⁢Rs254.64. Petrol⁣ will now cost​ Rs258.43‌ per liter, an increase from Rs253.63.

The Finance Division said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and relevant ministries recommended‍ the price​ adjustments.

Initial estimates had projected smaller​ increases of Re1 and Rs5 per⁣ liter for⁣ petrol and⁣ diesel, respectively. The adjustments reflect‌ rising‍ international‌ market prices.

earlier in the week, ⁢the⁢ government committed to⁤ the international Monetary Fund (IMF) to impose a petroleum levy of Rs77 per liter, along with carbon levies on furnace‌ oil and charges on petrol​ and diesel,​ starting July 1.
