Polio Cases Rise in Pakistan: Sindh Province Faces New Challenges

Despite decades of international eradication efforts, progress has been hampered by a complex interplay of factors including security concerns, vaccine hesitancy, and the spread of misinformation.
recent Cases and National Tally

This brings the total number of polio cases reported in Pakistan for the year 2025 to 29,according to a statement released by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
These new cases, both affecting young girls, contribute to a growing concern within Sindh. Just days prior, on September 23, 2025, a case was confirmed in the hyderabad district of the same province. This brings the total number of cases within Sindh to nine for the year.

The Ongoing Fight Against Polio
Eradicating polio requires sustained vaccination campaigns and addressing the root causes of vaccine refusal. Challenges such as reaching children in remote or insecure areas, coupled with distrust fueled by misinformation, necessitate a multifaceted approach. Continued vigilance and robust public health initiatives are crucial to protecting Pakistan’s children from this preventable disease.
