Palakkad Power Play: DCC Springs Surprise with Ko Muralidharan as Candidate – Is This a Coup in the Making

A letter has been published stating that the DCC has proposed K Muraleedharan as the candidate for the Palakkad assembly by-elections. DCC President Thankappan’s letter to the national leadership is now out. In the letter, the DCC president had asked K Muralidharan to contest from Palakkad to oust the BJP. The letter also stated that the request was made based on the unanimous decision taken by DCC officials. With the release of the letter, the accusations made by Sarin regarding the appointment of Rahul Mangkuthil come back to the fore.

A letter was sent to AICC general secretary KC Venugopal along with Congress state president K Sudhakaran, opposition leader and UDF president VD Satheesan, AICC general secretary and state in-charge Deepa Das Munshi.

The letter emphasized that it was necessary to defeat the Palakkad BJP at any cost. It is also stated that there is a need to prevent the growth of BJP in the state. In Palakkad constituency, a good candidate is needed to gain the support of the people, even at the grassroots levels.

The electoral college can only be won if the candidate who gets the votes of the left’s supporters arrives. After conducting a detailed inspection even at the lowest level of the constituency and taking opinions on the matter, the demand is made that the DCC should unanimously nominate K Muralidharan as the candidate. The letter also stated that there could be no attempt to defeat the BJP in Palakkad.

But the state leadership suggested Rahul Mangoothil. This request was accepted by the national leadership. Subsequently, there was a major outburst in the Congress in Palakkad district and Youth Congress leaders like P Sarin and AK Shanib came forward with an open stand against the party.

Dr. P. Sarin became the left candidate and Shanib, who had announced his independent candidature, withdrew and declared his support for Sarin. It is clear that Rahul was made the candidate on the request of Shafi Parambilin. In this situation, the letter from the DCC leadership also comes out.
