Mortgage giant Fannie Mae is partnering with Palantir to create an “AI-powered Crime Detection Unit” to combat mortgage fraud, the company
announced. Fannie Mae anticipates the new unit will save the US housing market millions of dollars by using artificial intelligence to detect
anomalous transactions.
The system will analyze mortgage paperwork for suspicious activity, triggering investigations when necessary. Fannie Mae CEO Priscilla Almodovar
said the Palantir technology will allow the company to detect patterns previously undetectable across millions of datasets.
at a press conference,Almodovar noted Fannie Mae’s previous fraud detection was reactive. She told reporters that the Palantir tech can review
financial documents and identify fraud in as little as 10 seconds, a task that coudl take human auditors months.
According to a report, Freddie Mac, which like Fannie Mae buys mortgages from lenders and packages them into securities, may implement a similar
system if the Fannie Mae partnership proves successful.
