In August 2026, the United States software sector significantly outperformed the broader market, tradingkey.com reported.

Software Sector Surge and Market Contrast in August 2026

The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) climbed more than 16 percent during the month, marking its second-highest monthly gain since 2002. In comparison, the S&P 500 index rose by approximately 2.6 percent over the same period, according to tradingkey.com data.

Earlier in the year, market participants worried that generative artificial intelligence might disrupt traditional software functions and upend the user-per-seat pricing models common among Software-as-a-Service providers. However, as multiple companies disclosed AI-related contracts, revenue figures, and usage metrics, market focus shifted toward whether artificial intelligence could actually drive order growth, encourage customer add-ons, and secure recurring revenue.

Palantir Revenue Grows as AIP Adoption Increases

Palantir reported second-quarter revenue of $1.935 billion, representing a 93 percent increase compared to the same period a year earlier. U.S. commercial revenue grew 149 percent to $764 million, while U.S. government revenue rose 90 percent to $809 million. The company raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to a range between $8.150 billion and $8.158 billion.

Palantir attributes the expansion of its U.S. commercial division to increased adoption of its Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP), which links large models to internal corporate data, permission systems, and business processes. Despite this reliance, the company does not disclose standalone revenue figures for AIP.

Based on a medium-term swing measured from the June 25 low of $106.37 to the September 24 high of $194.68, Palantir (PLTR) shares closed at $189.67 on September 25. Immediate overhead resistance sits at the $194.68 level, with a high-volume break opening a test of the all-time high at $207.52 and an extension target of $218.70. On the downside, structural support rests between $183 and $188, followed by key retracement supports at $173.84, $160.95, and $150.53.

Salesforce Subscription Revenue Increases via Agentforce

Salesforce reported fiscal 2027 second-quarter revenue of $11.345 billion, up 11 percent year-over-year, with $456 million contributed by Informatica. Subscription and support revenue increased 12 percent to $10.820 billion.

Annual recurring revenue (ARR) for Agentforce surpassed $1.5 billion, while the combined ARR for Agentforce and Data 360 approached $3.9 billion. Because the current quarter’s Agentforce ARR calculation incorporates other AI products, Slackbot, and Headless 360, growth figures cannot be compared directly on an identical baseline with historical metrics.

Salesforce (CRM) shares closed at $234.02 on September 25, trading beneath their 5-day, 10-day, 20-day, and 50-day moving averages. The 14-day Relative Strength Index stood near 37, signaling weakened short-term momentum.

Observers Monitor Standalone Value of AI Platforms

While companies like Palantir and Salesforce publish expanding aggregate figures for enterprise software and artificial intelligence integration, questions remain regarding how much standalone value platforms like AIP generate versus legacy offerings. Market observers continue to monitor whether contract conversions will hold steady or encounter usage volatility as companies adjust their GAAP-basis financial reporting.
