German authorities have arrested three individuals suspected of planning attacks on Jewish and Israeli institutions in Berlin, according to federal prosecutors. The arrests took place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, one day before Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
The suspects, identified under German privacy laws as Abed Al G. And Ahmad I., both German citizens, and Wael F.M., born in Lebanon, were apprehended in Berlin during a weapons handover. Police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, several pistols, and a significant amount of ammunition intended for use in the planned attacks.
The operation was the result of a multi-month surveillance effort conducted in coordination with Israeli intelligence services. The Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, confirmed it played a crucial role in identifying and tracking the suspected cell through close collaboration with German security services.
The three men have been charged with preparing a serious act of violence endangering the German state and membership in a foreign terrorist organization. They are scheduled to appear before a federal judge on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Hamas has denied any connection to the suspects, calling the allegations “baseless” and claiming they are intended to “undermine the German people’s sympathy for the Palestinian people.” German prosecutors maintain that the weapons were intended for use by Hamas in assassination attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany.
Police searches were also conducted in the cities of Leipzig and Oberhausen around the time of the Berlin arrests. The operation underscores ongoing international efforts to counter terrorism plots targeting Jewish and Israeli communities in Europe.
