EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.⁢ – Palmeiras defeated Al-Ahly 2-0 in a Club World Cup match at MetLife Stadium on Thursday, boosted by an own goal and a strike from José López. The match, attended by approximately 35,000 fans, was temporarily halted due to thunderstorms.

wessam Abou Ali of Al-Ahly inadvertently headed the ball into his⁣ own net early in the second half, giving Palmeiras the lead. López extended the advantage in the 59th minute,firing a ⁣left-footed shot into the bottom right corner,assisted by Maurício. ⁤The Club world Cup match saw momentum swing after the own goal, with Palmeiras capitalizing​ on Al-Ahly’s ‌defensive struggles.

The game was delayed for 30 ‍minutes due to ‌inclement weather, ‍with fans taking shelter before‌ returning to​ their seats. The first half saw four yellow cards issued.
