Pamela Anderson Draws on Life Experiences for ‘The Last Showgirl’ Role
Pamela Anderson Finds Freedom and Reflection in “The Last Showgirl”
Pamela Anderson is baring her soul in her latest role, drawing on a lifetime of experiences for “The Last Showgirl,” a new drama directed by Gia Coppola.
In a candid conversation on Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” Anderson revealed that she poured her “whole life” into the character of Shelly, a Las Vegas showgirl facing an uncertain future after her long-running show abruptly closes.
“I was able to bring a lot of my own personal experiance, my long life of dealing with beauty and glamour and aging and reassessing life choices,” Anderson shared with fellow actress Mikey Madison.
The role prompted Anderson to reflect on her own journey, notably the impact her highly publicized life had on her sons, Brandon and Dylan Lee, whom she shares with ex-husband Tommy Lee.
“A lot of the things I went through, I didn’t realize my kids were going through them at the same time,” Anderson admitted. “We talk about that a lot and (I) kind of beg forgiveness… But we’re such a team now.”
Anderson’s powerful performance in “The Last Showgirl” has earned her a first-time Golden Globe nomination.
The experience has also brought a sense of liberation for the actress.
“I’m not ashamed of my life.I’m not ashamed of the choices that I made even though maybe in hindsight, I would have done things differently,” Anderson said. “But you need life experience to know that you would have done that differently.”
Now, with her children grown, Anderson feels a newfound freedom to focus on her passions.
“I feel like now I have the freedom to focus on things instead of worrying about a relationship or my family. My kids are grown. I’m free. Now I can play again,” she declared.
“The Last Showgirl,” also starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Billie Lourd, is poised to be a captivating exploration of fame, aging, and reinvention.
