A.J. Greer Returns to Panthers Lineup for Stanley Cup Final Game 3
Updated June 9, 2025
A.J. Greer is set to make his Stanley Cup Final debut with the Florida Panthers in Game 3 against the Edmonton oilers, according to coach Paul Maurice. The Panthers and Oilers are tied 1-1 in the series.
Greer, 28, last played in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Carolina Hurricanes. An undisclosed injury sidelined him for the first two games of the final series. He will slot into the lineup in place of Jesper Boqvist.

During the playoffs, Greer has tallied two goals and one assist across 12 games. He typically plays on an energy line alongside Jonah Gadjovich and Tomas Nosek. The Panthers boast a 10-2 record in the postseason when Greer is part of the lineup. The Stanley cup Final Game 3 is scheduled for Monday night in Sunrise, Florida.
“I really hated watching from up top and not being with the guys,” Greer said. “But I had to make a decision that was going to be helpful to the team. If I can’t be 100%, I’m not playing the right way.”
Greer emphasized his focus remains on fulfilling his assigned role. “I’m not trying to change anything, and I’m not trying to change my identity… just trying to come back to the way that I usually play… and just kind of do what we do best and then set up the next line for success,” he said.
Greer admitted he once considered abandoning his NHL aspirations in 2021 while with the Bridgeport Islanders, contemplating a move to Europe for more playing time. However, he ultimately embraced a depth role, focusing on maximizing his contributions within limited minutes.
“I had to kind of embrace the role of playing six minutes a night and being able to do the right things with those kinds of minutes,” Greer stated. “When I was younger,I wasn’t used to that, nor was I mentally ready to accept that fact. I was always kind of playing with that victim mindset. I had to kind of change the way I thought and really appreciate where I was.”
What’s next
The Florida Panthers hope A.J.Greer’s return will provide a boost as they face the Edmonton Oilers in game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final, aiming to gain an edge in the series.
