Panthers Aim to Clinch Stanley Cup in Game 6 vs. Oilers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Florida Panthers have a chance to secure their second straight Stanley Cup title when they face the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 on Tuesday. However, closing out series has been a recurring challenge for the team.
Winger Matthew Tkachuk emphasized the importance of treating the game like a Game 7. “There’s no secret that the Cup’s in the building. It’s going to be the toughest test, biggest game,” Tkachuk said. The Panthers currently lead the series 3-2.
Last year, the Panthers famously missed three opportunities to eliminate the Oilers before ultimately winning in Game 7. This postseason, they suffered shutout losses in Game 6 against the Toronto Maple Leafs and game 4 against the Carolina Hurricanes when they had the chance to advance.
Under coach Paul Maurice, the Panthers hold a 10-8 record in potential series-clinching games as the 2023 playoffs. “We figured out a way to end those series,” Maurice said. “You put yourself in a position to eliminate the other team, but it’s not guaranteed as the other team is pretty darn good.”
The Panthers believe their past experiences will benefit them in Game 6. “we played one Game 7, so maybe we have a tiny advantage with knowing the desperation that they’re going to come out with,” Tkachuk said. “We have to match that desperation.”
