Light Aircraft Crashes in Littleborough, Greater Manchester

A light aircraft crashed in Littleborough, Greater Manchester, this afternoon, February 3, 2026, prompting a large response from emergency services. Police, paramedics, and firefighters are currently at the scene.

The crash occurred on land near Hollingworth Lake and Blackstone Edge, according to reports. While the number of casualties has not yet been officially confirmed, authorities believe two people were on board the aircraft.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) released a statement saying emergency crews are responding to reports of the crash and are working to establish the full circumstances and assess any casualties. “A scene is in place whilst emergency service workers conduct their enquiries and people are asked to avoid the area as this work is carried out,” the statement read.

Whittaker Lane is currently closed off due to the emergency response. A video posted on social media shows a significant presence of emergency services at the location.

The aircraft reportedly crashed landed close to Hollingworth Lake. Flight radar data suggests the light aircraft departed from an area in the Midlands around 10:00 am today, and appeared to lose altitude as it travelled towards Littleborough. Multiple helicopters have been observed flying over the crash site.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, but it remains unknown at this time if there have been any injuries. GMP is assessing any casualties.

Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact authorities.
