Great Britain’s Para Swimming Team Claims Four Gold Medals in Paris

Great Britain’s Para swimming team enjoyed a triumphant night, clinching four gold medals. The team’s success at La Defense Arena brings their total to 16 medals, including 11 golds.
Brock whiston, 27, secured her first Paralympic title in the SM8 200m individual medley. Overcoming a significant deficit, Whiston overtook Alice Tai to win in 2 minutes, 40.37 seconds. Tai finished third, behind Viktoriia Ishchiulova, with a time of 2:41.29.
Maisie Summers-Newton, 22, dominated the SB6 100m breaststroke, retaining her title in a Paralympic record time of 1 minute, 31.30 seconds. This marks her second gold of the Games, following her victory in the SM6 200m individual medley.
Grace Harvey, 26, also contributed to the gold rush, winning the SB5 event in 1 minute, 42.33 seconds. Harvey surged ahead of China’s Zhang Li and Ukraine’s Anna Hontar to upgrade her silver medal from Tokyo 2020.
The S14 mixed 4x100m freestyle relay team, composed of William Ellard, Rhys Darbey, Poppy Maskill, and Olivia Newman-Baronius, secured the fourth gold medal of the evening, finishing ahead of Australia and Brazil. This is the second gold for both Ellard and Maskill at these Paralympics.
“We are kings and queens in the pool,” Harvey said. “The team is amazing. Every single individual brings their own uniqueness to the sport, their character, their personality – and the one thing that unites us is our drive.”
