Paris Hilton and Roku Originals are teaming up for a new documentary examining early 2000s celebrity culture, tabloid obsession, and the dawn of the influencer era, according to announcements from Roku Media and 11:11 Media. Titled “The It Girls: Inside the 2000s” (wt) and scheduled to debut on The Roku Channel in 2027, the project is currently in pre-production.
Documentary Explores Tabloid Era and Pop Culture Frenzy
Inspired by Sarah Ditum’s book “TOXIC: Women, Fame and the Tabloid 2000s,” the film aims to go behind glossy images of the decade to tell the stories of women who dominated headlines. According to production partners, the project utilizes rich archival material, never-before-seen conversations, and intimate, revealing interviews. The documentary reframes early 2000s media coverage to examine the fashion, flash, and chaos of a period that fundamentally altered the relationship between fame and popular culture.
Production Partnerships and Executive Leadership
EverWonder Studio previously produced the viral hit “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.” Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Originals at Roku Media, noted that few eras are as nostalgic or culturally defining as the early 2000s. Hilton stated that the period lacked a playbook for constant cameras and rapid headlines, describing those who lived it as original influencers before the term existed. Jon Adler of EverWonder Studio and Michelle Peerali of Hi Mom Productions also emphasized the project’s focus on revealing the complex reality behind shiny tabloid photos.
