(Naju = News 1) Reporter Park Young-rae = Ahn Se-young (22, Samsung Life Insurance), who won the gold medal in the women’s singles badminton at the Paris Olympics, is visiting her hometown.

Naju City will hold a ‘Welcome Event for Ahn Se-young’s Hometown Visit’ at the Naju Sports Park Multipurpose Gymnasium from 5 PM on the 31st.

About 250 people, including Ahn Se-young and her parents, Naju Mayor Yoon Byeong-tae, National Assemblyman Shin Jeong-hoon, and citizens, are expected to attend the event.

The event will begin with a video of the Olympic gold medal winners, followed by the presentation of flower necklaces, welcoming remarks, presentation of encouragement money, welcome remarks, presentation of signed rackets, and commemorative photos.

An Se-young won the gold medal in the women’s singles badminton event at the 2024 Paris Olympics held on the 5th, becoming the first person in 28 years since Bang Soo-hyun at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics to win a gold medal in the event.

However, at the press conference, he made a shocking statement, saying, “My knee was not an injury that would heal easily, and I am very disappointed that the Korea Badminton Association was too complacent. I think that from this moment on, it will be difficult for me to continue playing for the national team,” and eventually, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched an investigation.

Ahn Se-young, who is from Ichang-dong, Naju-si, started playing badminton following her father, Ahn Jeong-hyeon, who was the director of the Naju City Sports Association. When she was in her first year at Naju Central Elementary School, she transferred to Gwangju Pungam Elementary School to learn badminton from coach Choi Yeong-ho, who was Lee Yong-dae’s teacher. She later graduated from Gwangju Sports Middle School and Gwangju Sports High School.
