Olympic Athletes Trade Medals for Badges in New K-Drama “Good Boy”
A team of former Olympic champions are joining forces to fight crime in the upcoming Korean action comedy, Good Boy. The drama features Park Bo-gum as Yoon Dong-ju, an Olympic boxing gold medalist who transitions to law enforcement. Kim So-hyun stars as Ji Han-na, a police officer and gold medalist in shooting.
After their athletic careers were cut short, both Dong-ju and Han-na seek to leverage their unique skills as police officers.Lee Sang-yi, known for roles in No Gain, No Love and My Demon, plays Kim Jong-hyeon, a former silver medalist in fencing. Together, these athletes-turned-cops aim to protect the vulnerable and bring down villains.
Park discussed the swift turnaround between projects. “We were shooting Good Boy about two months after finishing When Life Gives You Tangerines,” Park said.
To prepare for his role as a boxer, Park underwent intensive training.”I took boxing for a short period of time when I was in high school,” Park said. “For this role, I trained two hours a day for six months.”
Kim shared her experience with firearms for the first time in a role. “I had experience with swords and bows in ancient dramas, but this was my first time using a firearm,” Kim said. “Handling a firearm requires both caution and confidence. I was surprised by how frequently enough misfires happen, which made it all the more tense.”
Lee drew upon his real-world experience as a military police officer. “It definitely helped,” Lee said. “Knowing how to wear a stab-proof vest, use a baton, and understand police radio codes helped a lot.”
Lee added, “There’s a scene where Dong-ju and I receive a gift from Han-na’s mother. I think viewers will find it very cute and fun.”
