Pat Cummins Confirms Australia’s Playing XI for Adelaide Test Against India
Boland Replaces Injured Hazlewood for Adelaide Pink-Ball Test
Adelaide, Australia – Australian captain Pat Cummins confirmed Thursday that Scott Boland will replace the injured Josh Hazlewood for the second Test against India, a day-night encounter starting Friday at Adelaide Oval.
“all last summer he was kind of geared up to go and no-one fell over. He’s happy with how it’s coming out, and his rhythm. As a captain, it’s pretty awesome for someone like Scotty to come straight in,” Cummins said of Boland.
Former Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris believes Boland will pose a significant threat to the Indian batting lineup. “Scotty is really good with the pink ball. He’ll come in and test the Indian batters. He hits the right length, the ideal length in Australian conditions. He has got that nip-backer as well. He will be a massive threat for the Indian batters,” Harris said.
Hazlewood, who was Australia’s standout bowler in the first Test in Perth, taking 4 for 29 in the first innings, is expected to be fit for the third Test in Sydney.
“He’s really confident for the Gabba,” Cummins said of Hazlewood. “he had a good bowl yesterday [Wednesday] only like three quarters [pace]. It went beautifully.”
Hazlewood was also instrumental in Australia’s dominant victory over India in Adelaide in 2020, claiming 5 for 8 as India were bowled out for a paltry 36.
There were initial concerns about Mitchell Marsh’s bowling fitness, but Cummins confirmed that Marsh is ready to contribute with the ball after resting during net sessions.
