Pati regent Apologizes After Defiant Challenge to Protesters Over Land Tax Hike

The Regent of‌ Pati, Sudewo, has issued a public ‌apology following a‍ widely circulated​ video in which he appeared to challenge potential protesters demonstrating against a proposed 250⁤ percent increase in the Regional⁤ Land and Building Tax (PBB-P2).⁣ The incident sparked outrage on social media, prompting Sudewo to clarify his remarks and express regret for⁢ any offense caused.

Initial Defiance and⁤ Social Media Backlash

Facing mounting pressure, sudewo ‍held a press conference at the Pati Regency Hall on Thursday, ‌August 7, ⁢2025, to issue a formal apology.

“I apologize⁤ profusely for⁢ my statement ‘5,000 please, 50 thousand masses please.’ I do not ⁤challenge the people. There is absolutely no intention,” he stated, as quoted by detikjateng.⁣

Sudewo clarified that ⁢his intention ⁣was not‍ to provoke or intimidate citizens, but rather ⁢to express his resolve in pursuing ⁣what he believes is best for ⁣Pati Regency.‌ He expressed hope that ‌any⁤ demonstrations would ⁤proceed peacefully‌ and that protesters would be able to‌ effectively‍ convey thier concerns to the Pati Regency Government.

“I⁤ just say that ‌the demo goes smoothly and properly convey the aspiration not ‍because of certain parties,” he added.

Beyond the initial remarks, Sudewo also apologized for ‍the recent actions of the Pati Regency Satpol PP (Public Order Agency) regarding donations​ collected ‌by the ‌Pati United Pati‌ Alliance.
