Patient Complaint: Ludwig Remains Calm – ORF Vienna
Austrian Province to Pursue Legal Action Against Vienna Over Hospital Access
The province of Lower Austria will proceed with a lawsuit against the city of Vienna, alleging that Viennese hospitals have unfairly canceled appointments for patients from Lower Austria, delaying their medical care. The move follows a recent surge in complaints from residents denied treatment in Vienna.
Lower Austrian Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) told ORF Niederösterreich that the lawsuit centers on a patient whose long-scheduled appointment at a Vienna hospital was abruptly canceled, exacerbating their medical condition.Mikl-Leitner stated that this case isn’t isolated; approximately 100 patients from Lower Austria who experienced similar rejections at Viennese hospitals have contacted the patient advocacy office.
Vienna’s Health Councilor, Peter Ludwig, responded to questions about a potential lawsuit in a year-end interview with “Wien heute,” stating that anyone is free to file a lawsuit within a legal framework. Ludwig added that they are “very calmly” awaiting the legal challenge. This statement was made before the lawsuit was officially filed.
Mikl-Leitner also indicated her willingness to continue discussions with Vienna officials to resolve the issue.
