Latvian cross-country skiers recently participated in a competition in Italy, with varying degrees of success. Patrīcija Eiduka achieved 20th place out of 77 participants, securing a spot in⁣ the elimination matches. This ⁣performance highlights the growing ⁤strength of Latvian cross-country skiing.

Eiduka’s initial round saw her finish fifth out of six athletes ‍in her quarter-final.She was 1.08 seconds behind the top two,who advanced directly to the semi-finals. The third and fourth-place finishers, 0.58 seconds ⁤ahead of Eiduka,⁣ qualified as lucky losers.

for the men, raimo Vīgants finished 42nd in qualification, 1.97 seconds off the top 30. Lauris Kaparkalējs placed 51st out of 99 skiers in the competition.

Upcoming Events and the Road to the Olympics

This Sunday, cross-country skiers will compete in a ten-kilometer freestyle race with a separate start. Following this event, ⁢the focus ⁤shifts to the prestigious “Tour de Ski” series, which begins ⁢in Toblach, Italy, in the last week of December 2023.

The January 2024 ‍schedule includes World Cup stages in Oberhof, Germany, and Goms, Switzerland.
