Patrik Antonius, a Poker Hall of Famer, has officially ended his run in High Stakes Duel 5 after a disappointing series. He faced Jared Bleznick in a thrilling match that resulted in three consecutive losses for Antonius, totaling a staggering $350,000 in losses.
In the latest round, Round 3, Antonius battled Bleznick for $400,000. Despite a strong start, Antonius could not maintain his lead. Bleznick showcased impressive skills in both Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) and No-Limit Hold’em, turning the tide in his favor.
The duel started with a $50,000 match where Bleznick defeated Antonius. In Round 2, he again outplayed the Finn for $100,000. Antonius did not back down, raising the stakes to $200,000 for Round 3. After five intense hours of play, Bleznick secured victory, winning the High Stakes Duel 5 Champion’s Belt.
The match began with ten hands of PLO, during which Bleznick gained an early lead. However, Antonius quickly found his footing in No-Limit Hold’em, winning key pots. He called Bleznick’s bluff and took a sizable lead at one point. Yet, Bleznick responded by making strong river bets and recovering his losses.
The turning point came when Antonius hit a bad streak. Despite having the nut flush, he lost a crucial hand when Bleznick drew a full house. The pressure mounted as Bleznick built his chip stack, often finding lucky cards on the river.
In the final hand of the duel, Antonius moved all-in with a middle pair. Bleznick called and confidently declared he had outplayed Antonius throughout the match. As they revealed their hands, Antonius held the lead initially. Unfortunately for him, Bleznick drew a straight, clinching the final victory.
After the handshake, Antonius officially conceded, waving the white flag. Bleznick’s achievement marked him as the second player in High Stakes Duel history to sweep an opponent, a feat first accomplished by Phil Hellmuth.
With Bleznick’s successful defense against Antonius, he prepares to face future challengers in High Stakes Duel 6. The poker community wonders who will step up to battle him next.
