by David Thompson - Sports Editor

The New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will clash this Sunday for the NFL championship title in the Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The Patriots are seeking their seventh championship to become the winningest team in NFL history, while the Seahawks aim for their second Super Bowl ring and a chance to avenge their loss in the 2015 Super Bowl.

The Patriots reached the playoffs by winning the AFC East division with a 14-3 record, earning them a second-seed position. They defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 16-3 in the Wild Card round, followed by a 28-16 victory over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round, and ultimately secured the AFC championship by defeating the Denver Broncos 10-7 in a closely contested game.

The team from Boston, Massachusetts, will attempt to claim their seventh Super Bowl title in California, surpassing the Pittsburgh Steelers (who also have six championships – 1975, 1976, 1979, 1980, 2006 and 2009) and becoming the sole leader in Super Bowl victories (2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017 and 2019).

Seattle Seahawks also finished the regular season with a 14-3 record, winning the NFC West and securing the top seed, bypassing the Wild Card round. They dominated the San Francisco 49ers 41-6 in the Divisional Round and then edged out the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 in the NFC Championship game.

Throughout their history, the Seahawks have won the Super Bowl once, defeating the Denver Broncos 43-8 in the 2014 edition. They came close to winning a second championship in 2015, but lost to the Patriots 28-24, and will be looking for redemption this year.
