Guide Dog Awareness in Kameoka, Kyoto: Maggie Takes the Lead
Meet Maggie, the Mayor’s Dog for a Day
To coincide with Dog Day on November 1st, Mayor Takahiro Katsuragawa of Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, appointed Maggie, the Kansai Guide Dog Association’s PR dog, as the Mayor’s Dog for a Day on the 31st. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the vital role guide dogs play in assisting individuals with visual impairments.
Maggie, a 5-year-old female golden retriever, is known for her friendly personality. At the appointment ceremony held at City Hall, she received a sash from Mayor Katsuragawa, designating her as the “Mayor’s Dog for a Day.” Eichi Koashi, director of the Kansai Guide Dog Association for the Blind, read out Maggie’s comment on her behalf, saying, “I will work hard, so please support me warmly.”
On November 1st, Maggie will attend an award ceremony for a dog photo contest and will also be performing “official duties” introducing a dog information magazine published by the city. This event is a great opportunity to promote guide dog awareness and recognize the importance of these incredible animals in our community.
