“Boy and Dog” will be made into a movie starring Fumiya Takahashi and Nanase Nishino (to be released on March 20, 2025) (C) 2025 Movie “Boy and Dog” Production Committee

The release date of the movie “Shonen to Inu”, in which actors Fumiya Takahashi and Nanase Nishino co-star for the first time as double leads, has been set for March 20th (Thursday, holiday) next year (2025). A special video and new visuals have been released showing Tamon, a dog who goes on a long journey in search of the only person he cares about.

This work is based on the novel of the same name (Bunshun Bunko) by Seishu Hase, who won the 163rd Naoki Award (first half of 2020). Tamon, a dog, travels across Japan from Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture, heading south to meet his loved ones. The original story, which depicts emotional exchanges with the hurt, troubled, and confused people he meets on his journey, resonated with many readers, with one commenting, “It was like a modern version of “A Dog of Flanders” and made me cry!”

The megaphones for live-action film adaptations are “From Lageli with Love” (2022), “To Those Who Couldn’t Be Protected” (2021), “Ito” (2020), and “The Eight Year Old Bride”. Directed by Takahisa Zeze, whose films include “True Story of a Miracle” (2017) and “64 – Rokuyon – Part 1/Part 2” (2016). Takahashi will play Kazumasa, a young man who travels with Tamon, and Nishino will play Miu, a woman whose life is saved by Tamon.

The newly released video begins with Miu (Nishino) saying, “Can you believe that a dog travels thousands of kilometers to meet someone he really wants to meet?” In contrast to Miu’s calm expression, Kazumasa (Takahashi) shouts “Tamon!” with a heartbroken expression as he desperately chases something. As if in response to that voice, Tamon howls, and the story depicts his journey, which is incredibly long in terms of time and distance.

Compared to the happy times at the beginning when young Tamon and a small boy were playing, the journey of 3,000 kilometers was far too harsh. Even so, Tamon continues to run straight to the person he cares about. What awaits you at the end of the journey? Why is Miu crying? “That’s amazing, Tamon.” What does Kazumasa really mean? This is a special video that foretells a story that will surely move you.
