The Punjab Kings (PBKS), led by shreyas Iyer, are vying for a spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final after a
strong showing in the group stage. Thier journey includes a mix of dominant performances and tough challenges in
the IPL playoffs.
After a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Qualifier 1, the Kings now face the Mumbai Indians in
Qualifier 2. This sets the stage for a crucial match as they pursue their first IPL title. Their consistent
performance throughout the tournament has earned them another chance at reaching the final.
This isn’t the first time the Punjab Kings have reached this stage. In 2012, as Kings XI Punjab, they played
against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a memorable Qualifier 2.
In the 2012 match, CSK captain MS Dhoni chose to field first, leading to an explosive start by Kings XI.Virender
Sehwag’s century set the tone, supported by Manan Vohra, who contributed 35 runs in a 110-run opening
partnership. Sehwag’s innings included 12 fours and eight sixes, resulting in a score of 122 off 58 balls.David
Miller added 38 runs off 19 balls, pushing the total to 226/6.
Chasing a ample target, CSK’s Suresh Raina responded with a rapid 87 off 25 balls, hitting multiple
boundaries. However, his dismissal shifted the momentum. Despite contributions from Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni,
CSK fell short, finishing at 202. Axar Patel and Karamveer Singh’s economical bowling proved crucial in Kings XI’s
24-run victory.
What’s next
The Punjab Kings will need to draw on their past experiences and current form as they prepare for their upcoming
qualifier 2 match. Their ability to perform under pressure will be key to securing a spot in the IPL final and
competing for the championship.
