A specialist in anesthesiology has been named as the new spokesperson for the Metabolism and Nutrition Section. The spokesperson will share leadership responsibilities with a deputy,also a specialist in anesthesiology and head of international clinical studies. The pair aims to complement each other, with one bringing a biochemical background and enthusiasm for international studies, while the other focuses on clinical studies, implementation, training, and promotion.
We are a very strong network in our section: Many of our members are not only traveling together in the Divi, but also in other specialist societies. We also want to use this for research in the future,
said the new section spokesperson. The section plans to continue disseminating collected evidence to facilitate its transfer to clinical practice, working closely with related organizations.
The spokesperson added, We also want to cooperate even more with other experts, above all with other sections as well as with other national and international specialist societies who want to drive the topic of nutrition and metabolism in the intensive care unit.
New Members Welcome
The section aims to further expand its membership,building on the work of previous leaders. The section currently has over 30 members, with 10 new members added in 2024.
Such as, we now have an ecotrophologist on board, but also employees from nursing and psychology have been added,
the spokesperson noted. In addition, we have doctors from a wide variety of areas, from surgery to internal medicine to anesthesia; we are quiet diverse. And for the first time, there is also a student who wants to sniff in. I find this advancement very gratifying and critically important!
Internal Interest Groups Enhance Efficiency
The section is characterized by its diversity and its operational structure. Three internal interest groups facilitate collaboration between regular section meetings. These groups focus on research initiatives, networking with other specialist societies, and data collection for nutrition within hospital data systems to improve measurability and evaluation.
A deputy spokesperson stated, With these interest groups, we can work even more efficiently and also use synergies.
The leadership welcomes individuals interested in nutrition from various perspectives, including biochemistry, medicine, and psychology. If someone is interested in the topic of nutrition, irrespective of the viewpoint, be it from the biochemistry, a medical side or from a psychological side – everyone is welcome so that we can understand the topic even better in all facets,
they said.
