【Taebaek】The World Baduk Championship and Little League Baseball Championship are scheduled to be held in Taebaek, so special events are expected.
The 19th Prime Minister’s Cup World Baduk Championships, which aims to promote Taebaek, the mecca of Baduk, to the world, will be held from the 20th to the 26th at the Taebaek Plateau Gymnasium and Taebaek Hotel.
This competition, in which approximately 60 countries around the world, including Korea, China, and Japan, participate, is hosted by the Korea Baduk Association and Taebaek City, organized by the Korea Baduk Association and Taebaek City Baduk Association, and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Sports Council, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, Taebaek City, Taebaek City Council, and Gangwon Ilbo. In addition, the Asian Baduk Federation and the European Baduk Federation are cooperating.
The team and officials will enter the country on the 20th and move to Taebaek, where the opening ceremony will be held on the 21st and the full-scale competition will begin. In addition to the Baduk competition, the team will also visit local tourist attractions such as the Gumunso and Coal Museum.
The 4th Taebaeksan Cup National Little League Baseball Tournament, which promotes Taebaek as a highland sports city and is a fierce competition among baseball aspirants, will be held for ten days from the 21st to the 30th. Hosted by Gangwon Ilbo and the Korea Little League Baseball Federation, organized by the Korea Little League Baseball Federation, and sponsored by Taebaek City, Taebaek City Council, and Taebaek City Baseball Softball Association, this tournament will be attended by 47 teams from around the country and approximately 900 players.
In particular, by applying the loser’s bracket system, a certain number of matches are guaranteed to the participating teams, and economic ripple effects are expected in the region through accommodation and meals.
Taebaek Mayor Lee Sang-ho said, “Taebaek, a highland tourism, resort, and leisure sports city, is also gaining attention as a mecca for baduk and little league baseball tournaments,” and added, “We will spare no effort in providing support to ensure that the players participating in the tournament do not experience any inconvenience.”
