pear Suite Platform Elevates Community Health Worker Role, Wins Pitch Contest
Los Angeles-based Pear suite, a startup focused on empowering community health workers (CHWs), recently won the payer/provider technology track of MedCity News’ INVEST Pitch Perfect contest. the company beat out five other startups to claim the top spot.
The victory highlights the growing recognition of the vital role of community health workers in the healthcare system. Roughly half the states now offer Medicaid reimbursement for CHW services. Medicare also recently added these services to its physician fee schedule.

Takeda said they help people access resources and address social needs. He added that these workers often bring valuable lived experience to their roles.
“They’re the frontline public health superheroes that are addressing health and social challenges,” Takeda said. “Sometimes they’re called doulas,care coordinators,navigators or health advocates. they kind of go by many different names.”
Pear Suite offers a software platform that helps community organizations manage member needs and services, similar to an electronic health record.The platform facilitates data collection and sharing with health plans and hospitals, as well as claims submission. It also streamlines compliance, documentation, and care plan reviews.
Since its 2023 launch, Pear Suite has established a nationwide provider network of more than 1,000 community health workers across 30 states. These workers primarily come from existing community organizations.
According to Takeda, Pear Suite operates as an “Uber for community health workers,” empowering existing groups to scale their operations rather than directly employing the workers.
Rohit Nuwal, a partner at TELUS Global Ventures and one of the contest judges, praised pear Suite’s ability to transform community health workers into a scalable engine for value-based care. He said the platform hits the “holy grail of healthcare: better outcomes, lower costs, broader access.”
The U.S. has about 4 million community health workers. Their work is crucial in addressing social determinants of health,such as food security,housing,and transportation.
Pear Suite is currently raising its Series A round after securing $4.2 million in seed funding.
