The city of Pekanbaru has reported that the number of HIV cases has reached 3,700, prompting the local government to significantly expand its screening and diagnostic efforts. This increase in documented cases has led to a strategic shift in how public health officials identify and treat the virus within the community.

Mayor Agung has announced a strengthened approach to screening, emphasizing a strategy known as jemput bola, or active case finding.
