Jussara’s rope should have been released before the jump, but it was ‘pushed’ before
A 25-year-old tourist died last Sunday (3) while trying to perform a pendulum jump in the Ecological Park of Lagoa Azul, in Campo Magro, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba.
Jussara was participating, alone, in a trip that left from Joinville, Santa Catarina. During the trip, he made friends with other people who took part in the trip.
According to the Civil Police, who are investigating the case, before a person jumps in sports like this, they must be secured by a safety rope, connected to the platform. This rope needs to be released when jumping, which did not happen with the victim. Police also said that since the safety rope was shorter, it pulled the victim against the rocks, causing the accident.
According to Elisabete Fernandes, who met Jussara on the day of the tragedy, someone else jumped in front of Jussara and everything was going well until then. “We went up the route at 12:50pm and when we got there, Jussara and another girl were going to jump in front of everyone else because they were also going to rappel. At the time it happened, we were filming. Each girl was filming each other’s jump. Everything was handed over to the police”, the witness began.
“About three steps ahead of him [instrutor] give us instructions, this guide [linha da vida] is deleted. In her case, she was very scared. There is a countdown for the person to jump. The first count was made and he gave up. He spoke to her and a second count was made. In the second, he [instrutor] push her As he pushed her, the leash had not been removed. It should have already been deleted on the first account. The first girl pushed in the same way that Jussara pushed”, Elisabete described.
According to the witness, the guide was responsible for causing Jussara’s body to be thrown into the quarry. “After she hit the wall, we saw that she was almost bent over. “It’s a nightmare you can’t forget how hopeless it was,” he added.
“They took all the equipment out of the place… The broken handrail, everything. The trainer came shouting saying there was nothing else to do and I said I wouldn’t leave without seeing if she was ok. The police made them search for everything they had taken. The owner wanted us to leave.”
The Lagoa Azul Ecological Park, where the tourists died, was closed before and on the day of the accident, according to Campo Magro City Hall. According to the municipal administration, the park does not have operating permits, including environmental permits, in addition to the permit and authorization from the Fire Department.
In a statement, the company Ojheik Rolês, which is responsible for the attraction in which the young woman died, said it deeply regrets the accident and provides support and solidarity to the victim’s family. “Furthermore, it clarifies that the company and its employees are available to the competent authorities for any explanation regarding the circumstances of the accident”, said an excerpt from the statement.
The people at the scene were interviewed by the police. The owner of Ojheik Rolês and two employees went to the police station, but he remained silent, according to the police.
