Penn Soccer Star Leo Burney Earns All-American Honors for Second Straight Year
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Pennsylvania men’s soccer standout Leo Burney has been named a Second team All-american by teh United Soccer Coaches (USC), marking the second consecutive year he has received this prestigious honor.
Burney, a senior defender, capped off a remarkable collegiate career with another stellar season for the Quakers.He started in all 17 matches, anchoring a defense that allowed a league-low 16 goals. Burney also contributed significantly on the offensive end, racking up 10 points, including four goals.
“Leo has been an exceptional player and leader for our program,” said Penn head coach Brian Gill. “This All-American recognition is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and talent. We are incredibly proud of him.”
Burney’s dominance on the field earned him numerous accolades throughout his Penn career. He was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year in both 2022 and 2023, and was a First Team All-Ivy selection all four years. Burney’s leadership helped guide the Quakers to three consecutive Ivy League regular season titles and the top seed in the 2023 and 2024 Ivy League Men’s Soccer Tournaments.
The talented defender’s impressive collegiate career has earned him a professional opportunity. Burney recently signed a homegrown contract with Major league Soccer’s Seattle Sounders FC.
