Pepsi and Diageo have withdrawn their sponsorship of the 2026 Wireless Festival in London following the announcement that Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, would headline the three-day event this summer.

The festival, which is scheduled to take place from July 10 to July 12, 2026, at Finsbury Park in North London, is one of the United Kingdom’s largest rap and hip-hop events, typically attracting up to 150,000 attendees annually.

Pepsi, which served as the lead sponsor for the event, confirmed on April 5, 2026, that it was withdrawing its support. Diageo, the parent company of liquor brands including Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Guinness, Baileys, Smirnoff, and Ciroc, also announced on April 5, 2026, that it would no longer sponsor the festival as it currently stands.

Political and Public Backlash

The decision by sponsors to exit the event follows widespread criticism of the festival organizers’ choice to book Ye as the headliner for the entirety of the three-night run. The rapper has faced significant notoriety in recent years for a series of antisemitic comments and activities that glorified Nazism.

Among the specific actions cited in reports were the release of a song titled Heil Hitler in 2025 and the sale of T-shirts bearing swastikas on his clothing website.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined the criticism of the booking. Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Starmer stated that it was deeply concerning that Ye had been booked to perform despite his previous antisemitic remarks and celebration of Nazism.

Ye’s Response and Health Disclosures

In January 2026, Ye published a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal to apologize for his previous comments and actions.

Ye's Response and Health Disclosures

I lost touch with reality. Things got worse the longer I ignored the problem. I said and did things I deeply regret. In that fractured state, I gravitated toward the most destructive symbol I could find, the swastika, and even sold T-shirts bearing it.

Ye has previously stated that he has bipolar disorder, though he claimed in 2025 that he had been misdiagnosed and instead has autism.

Uncertainty Over Festival Proceedings

The withdrawal of major sponsors and the criticism from the British government have led to serious doubts regarding whether the festival will proceed as planned in July.

There are additional complications regarding Ye’s ability to enter the United Kingdom. Reports indicate that the musician has not yet made an application to enter Britain. Under existing powers, authorities may block entry if a person’s presence is deemed not conducive to the public good.

Festival Republic, the team handling publicity for the shows, and the organizers of the Wireless Festival did not respond to requests for comment regarding the loss of sponsors or the potential for the event to be cancelled.
